Service Learning Project - Overview

Hi everyone! Understand that everyone is quite stressed up about PW, me too! Just bear with this subject for just a few more weeks and that's all.

Anyway, understand that some of you didn't turn up for harmonica practice on tue due to open house facilitator's briefing. These are some important notices which we have made known to the members. As for those who turn up for tuesday practice, please also view the details as there are some additional information.

      Objective of this SL project

      1) Spread our love for music because we believe that music brings people together.

      2) Start a harmonica culture as we realize very few schools have a harmonica band.

      3) To share with other children some of the skills in which it would be beneficial to them.

      4) To prepare the children for a Christmas concert organised by the centre.

        Organisation

        Daybreak Family Service Centre

        Blk 855 Yishun Ring Rd #01-3539 (S760855)

According to latest information, 31 students are interested in this programme.

            Duration of Service

            1) 21st November to 19th December 2007 (Every Wednesday and Friday). Therefore, there will be a total of 9 sessions in all.

            2) For the very last session, we might be organizing a funfair session so as to end our service learning project and the course with a blast.

            3) Each session will be conducted for 2.5 hours (as compared to the previous years, this has been extended due to the shortening of the number of sessions and the activities we would be having).

            4) For all the Wednesdays, the first half-hour will be used to settle some administrative items while the other two hours will be used to teach them how to play with the harmonica.

            5) For all the Fridays, the first half-hour will be used to settle some administrative items, the next one hour will be used to revise what was taught on Wednesday and brush up their skills. Then, the final one hour, we will conduct different activities, which we hope that it would be useful to the children. (Details of each activity and their rationale are listed below)

The Friday 1-hour activity [Proposed Activity]

              Dancing, Teaching Magic and Sports.

We need more suggestions. Each section to come up with at least 2 activity that can be conducted within an hour.

                  Other Information [Tentative]

Children will be split into 5 groups. 6 children per group (only 1 group with 7)

For each group, we will allocate 3 Harmokees. Ideally, 1 harmokee pair up with two children.

Therefore, for each session, about 15 harmokees will go to Daybreak Centre.

                        IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Please check your schedule by next harmonica session. We need to know which day are you unavailable so that we could do necessary arrangement as soon as possible.

Please let either Shu Qin or Thomas know if you suddenly cannot make it via sms. We will allocate another timeslot for you.
